2020 Youth Art Exhibit

2020 Youth Art Exhibit

Labels for the back of artwork

The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center in Wellsboro, PA presents a call for entries to its annual Youth Art Exhibit. The exhibition dates are March 1-27. The exhibition will feature artwork  by high school students from Bradford, Tioga, and Potter Counties. Any art student in 7th-12th grade can enter. Traditionally, art teachers have collected student work for this exhibit and delivered it all at one time. That works great for us, but we understand that there are artists outside of the traditional art classroom, too! Let’s see what you’ve been working on.

The main event for this exhibit is the last day of the show. On Friday, March 27 we invite all of the participating artists to the Gmeiner. Students spend the morning working on artist trading cards, engaging in an art critique with someone from a different school, and we have a guest speaker who works in the Arts.  Awards are also presented at this event. Last year, we had over 100 youth artists attend, two retired graphic designers present, and we gave out about 20 awards. Then, when it is all over everyone takes their artwork down. It is a unique and fun event that we look forward to hosting every year.

Eligibility:

Open to all 7th-12th-grade level public, private, and home-schooled students from Bradford, Tioga, and Potter Counties.

Accepted artworks:

Accepted works can be hand-delivered or shipped. Frames and/or mats are appreciated for the display of two-dimensional artwork. Efforts will be made to hang all artwork entered. In the event of too many entries, completed works of art with frames and/or mats will be given display priority at the Gmeiner’s discretion.

The entrant (whether parent, student, or teacher) will be responsible for transporting their work to and from the gallery. Every precaution will be taken to handle artwork with utmost care. However, the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center will not be responsible for damage or loss in any case.

Awards:

The Gmeiner will have a guest judge select awards. Awards will be presented at the conclusion of the exhibit in the following categories: Painting, drawing, digital art, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, and photography.

Conditions: Students can submit a maximum of 2 artworks. Artwork must be original. Copies of published photos or anyone else’s art are not acceptable. We are looking for work that is based on the student’s own photographs or imagination. Ideally original, masterfully completed works are entered.

Applicants are encouraged, not required to submit two-dimensional work of any medium with a maximum size of 48” in any direction. Sculptural and ceramic work must fit through a 6×8’ doorway and weigh less than 70 pounds. Video works are eligible.

Artists may not substitute another work for an accepted work, alter work after submission, nor withdraw a work after it has been accepted. Artists may but are not required to mat and/or frame accepted entries. Though the Gmeiner does appreciate the effort when those resources are available!! The Gmeiner reserves the right to refuse any entry which delivered with wet paint/varnish/or other materials, or does not meet the criteria. The Gmeiner reserves the right to refuse work that is not right for space.
